More information on Ethical Shopping

Many people are interested in how they can be more involved in helping women around the globe, especially those that produce for consumers from the United States. Before you go shopping this year, we suggest you start by learning more about the conditions and realities facing women workers.

You can read more about these topics on our website:

Women and Wal-Mart

Women in Sweatshops in Guatemala

Women in the Banana Industry

Now Take Action

1. Join our mailing list, first and foremost by clicking here and sending us your email address. STITCH will contact you when urgent actions are needed to support worker's rights in Central America.

2. When you purchase a product at a store, consider writing a note on the back of the receipt and mailing it to the company headquarters. Let the company know that you want them to pay a living wage to their workers in the United States and around the world. Ask for them to send you a letter in response.

3. Consider making a donation to STITCH as a gift to those on your list that have everything. Give the gift of global justice this year!

Or mail a donation to STITCH, 1525 Newton Street, NW, Washington, DC 20010

4. Check out these union stores to buy union made goods:

The Union Shop of the AFL-CIO
The SEIU Store

Or read the new shop with a conscience guide put together by SweatFree Communities, Sweatshop Watch, and International Labor Rights Forum:

2008 Shop with a Conscience Consumer Guide

STITCH is a network of women unionists, organizers, and activists that builds connections between Central American and US women organizing for economic justice.
